Hard wire a radar detector; anyone do this yet?

I was wondering if anyone tackled hard wiring a radar detector in their ATS? Before I do this, if someone had already done it, I would appreciate them sharing their ideas and what they did. Thanks in advance.

I have very easy to do. The fuse panel is right there on the left side of the dash. I mount the detector on the visor and just tuck the wire in along the pillar. Took me about 10 minutes to do.

Great information. I was going to check out where the fuse panel is tonight. I have the V1 detector and I wanted to use that wiring setup. My other plan was to get the invisicord.com wire and attach to the rear view mirror plug.

Which fuse did you decide to use and what method did you use to tap into?

    Thanks.

The side panel just pops off. They did a good job of not making it obvious. I'll check tonight to see which fuse I used. All I do is pull the fuse and wrap the bare wire around one leg of the fuse and push it back in.

If you have a V1, the Savvy is a nice option.

Ok I used the fuse marked #18 called APO2. Good luck.

I just got home and pulled out the owners manual and I saw the instrument panel fuse block. I looked and see the accessory power outlet 1 and 2. I checked and they are only switched on power supplys. Perfect, thanks for the help.

The only issue with Savvy is that it interferes with OnStar diagnostics. It must be unplugged to run diagnostics.

I have an invisicord for my V1. I had this pulling juice from the onstar rear view mirror in my 2011 Camaro, so I'm guessing I can do the same in the ATS. I'll attempt it soon and report back.

I have a Escort Passport 8500 and was wondering the same thing. So the fuse 1 or 2 are accessories? Now I don't have to mess up the CUE system.
Hardwiring is the only way to go. Why would anyone want a spiral wire hanging in their face?

I used the fuse marked APO2 like one of the previous posters did. Works great. Just be careful if you have the Driver Assist Package (I think that's what is causing it) because you'll get a ton of false alarms when you are behind vehicles, garage doors, etc.

Re: Hard wire a radar detector; anyone do this yet?

I took off the plastic pieces that surround the rear view mirror adjustment ball and that touch the windshield and below are the wires I found. My rear view mirror doesn't draw any power (no auto dimming or garage door openers, etc...), so I was surprised to find wires here. Anyone know which wire is the accessory wire (12v when car is running, 0v when car is off)? The blue wire? I didn't have time to use a volt meter to figure this out yet. My plan is to tap into these wires with my invisicord to hard wire my V1.

Re: Hard wire a radar detector; anyone do this yet?

Bad news about the wires in my pic above. They don't draw enough volts to run a radar detector with an invisicord. Next I am going to test the wires that power the onstar buttons and circle lights just above the rear view mirror. Anyone know how to get to those wires? I tried prying the plastic, but it didn't pop off, and I don't want to force it.
