    Cold Air Intake Install, 2.0T

Hey, just got some goodies and thought I'd post some simple instructions for those new to modding.

This is probably the easiest of all upgrades, since it requires one tool (flathead screwdriver) and about 15 minutes of your time.

    Here's stock:

While everything's still clamped down, I recommend removing the emissions hose from the intake tube. It has a slightly different connector than what I'm used to, but simple enough to attack.

Push the connector down towards the intake slightly, lift up and away with the locking clip, and pull the connectors apart.

From here, remove the clamp at the air box and the one at the turbo hiding here:

Work your way backwards to install.

A couple of tips before the start
-layout the direction of your hose clamps before install. We've all forgotten, gotten everything in place, and realized there is no screwdriver access to tighten things down.
-do it while its warm. Cold hoses are less pliable and will not flex quite as much, which can be tricky when your intake tube has *no* flex.

Nice...where does the emissions hose get rerouted to?

the hose still goes to the intake, but in my case its on the underside of my intake so its closer to the catch can and less visible.

Nice, I was hoping that was the answer, but couldn't tell from the pics.

Does it retain the factory style clip?

    Thanks

Mine does not, since I went with the catch can setup from the start. However, I believe the guys I got the setup from will also be doing a stock setup (but don't hold me to that)

Any dyno or HPT logs (e.g. IAT temp reduction) showing the benefit of the CAI?

I guess "cold air" isn't the best term for it, but I was just copying what everyone else has been referring to it as. This setup is more for better flow and removing the biggest restriction in the factory air path. I didn't plan on it making much if any additional power by iteself. However, as mods increase, it will result in getting more out of the other add-ons (such as tune, exhaust, etc). Although I do now benefit from reduce oil consumption due to the addition of the catch can setup

    Thanks for the feedback sqkid89!
We put fitting under the intake tube to try and keep it clean looking! I have been nonstop with HP software and learning a lot of stuff! I will do a comparison with intake tube vs stock! I have open air filter on my car and there was a very drastic difference in temps! It's only been 50 degrees where I live, and intake temps haven't gone over 85-90 degrees even doing 3-4 gear pulls. I don't remember off hand numbers but factory settings in computer pull a lot of timing out if ait gets high!

Hoping to put my catch can and intake setup on today or tomorrow, the craftsmanship of the TRS Fab parts is very nice and they come ready to install. No bag of clamps and hardward, its all ready to go on without any prep which is a nice touch. I'll post a review of them as soon as i get it done.

Can you take pics of the inside the stock piece? (from both ends) It'd be cool to see how it looks in there versus the aftermarket version.

I'll try tomorrow, i ran out of time today and got it on but need to work on it some to get it just right. Feels pretty good so far, can't wait to get the tune to really see some gains.

Re: Cold Air Intake Install, 2.0T

As soon as we get some better weather around here, I'll be updating my install with some slight changes. I purchased a spare PCV hose assembly (GM part number 12654851) to modify and get rid of one of the hoses going to the catch can.

...and there's a downpipe on the way, so I'll make sure to make another thread just for that

Re: Cold Air Intake Install, 2.0T

So a couple new shots. Everything fits nicely without the engine cover on, but will require some additional tweaking if I want to reinstall the cover. Two options to go from here: 1. Notch the engine cover. Probably not the way I want to go in the event I want to revert back to stock in the future. 2. Get some vacuum line and revise the fitting spacing at the valve cover (most likely). In no hurry to do either option right now, so cover off it is.
