What is "Listed as a manufacturer vehicle Sold at auction" in CarFax?

The CarFax report says it was listed for sale May 15th. $39K seems like a smoking deal for this model, but it hasn't sold. The CarFax also says "Listed as a manufacturer vehicle Sold at auction" 3 days before they listed it for sale. Why would a new car with 2,300 miles be sold at auction? Bank repo?? I'm guessing there's something wrong with this car, at that price.

Car was owned by Cadillac Motor Division of GM.
A prior demonstrator, a prior courtesy vehicle, comparison or promo vehicle, a test track car, maybe a service or factory salesreps car, factory lease to a GM family member, or possibly a repurchase from the invoiced dealer for possible issues (cosmetic or mechanical). Maybe a prior short term lease or rental and car is still titled to Cadillac Motor division. Dozens of possibilities.
Ask the Dealer, he can explain it to you.

It's about a $50k car for $40 cause it's technically, not new with $2,300 on it. Simple enough to check out it's history......sounds like a reasonable deal to me! Summer months are sometimes a tough time to sell; especially with 2015's on the horizon....I'd take advantage of it if it's what you want!

Yeah its a used car. So proceed as you would buying any used car. As for the price, I can't say how good it is. It is a used car and a year newer but a local Cadillac dealer is advertising $14k off sticker for remaining new 2013s. Someone ordered too many.

Take the VIN# to your local Cadillac dealer and have them look up any service history.
