    First Service

5600 miles had my first oil change averaged 17.7 MPG (I have a heavy right foot)

I had the dealer upgrade to Mobil 1 and reset my fuel economy, I've only had it an hour after the service, but car feels smoother..... I am entirely aware that the difference between Mobil dexos and Mobil 1 that I'm feeling could be in my head, I'm interested to find out

Hopefully you're not burning oil and assuming you weren't accidentally running 140w gear oil before the switch, I'd say it's all in your head.

Oil has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with how smooth an engine runs or idles. "Smooth running" is dependent on proper combustion, not the microns of oil film between the bearing surfaces. If an engine is running rough because of anything related to bearings or lubrication, it has about a minute before it seizes or throws a major component through the block.

DEXOS is a certification and an oil that just tells you that Mobil 1 meets or exceeds the specifications for cars that requires DEXOS

this is more than in my head, it's extremely subtle, but the car feels/sounds more refined, like a very slight edge has been taken off this could be placebo, but what i know for sure is not placebo is without a change in gas (i use shell premium almost exclusively) or a change in my routine my mileage went up almost 3 MPG from 17.7 to 20.4

When you said this it sounded like you thought there were two different oils. If you found the Mobil1 made before the certification it would not be Dexos. For the last year they have be Dexos certified.

this is true, F1 cars get polished before every race for this reason, the difference is tiny but it is there

dont think it much matters, Mobil 1 pre and post certification would always be better than the DEXOS synthetic blend that comes stock in the car, whats interesting is GM is actually going backwards and approving DEXOS synthetic blend on cars that previuosly were to have Mobil 1 like the escalade

Haha. And the R sticker that the ricers put on the back of their Honda Civics adds about 4.5 horse power.
