Warning to potential buyers wanting true Navigation on their ATS

Do not make the same mistake I just made. Yesterday I bought a new 2013 ATS 3.6 AWD Performance, list was $57,000 CDN and change. I just figured out that I dont actually have Navigation!!! It is my mistake but I thought when I looked at the CUE system and it had the navigation Icon on it that I had Navigation. Go figure, I don't, I have to get turn by turn from OnStar? I cannot believe that a $57,000 vehicle does not have true NAV. For heaven sakes you can get it in a $15000 vehicle but in this it is optional. Unless I am missing something. I won't be buying another Cadillac again if that is how cheap GM is. I am totally P.O.'d with myself, the NAV Icon sucked me in I guess, not real happy@#$%&!

    Sorry to hear that.

Other than misunderstandings making anything optional is a good thing. I wanted nav but there are many people who don't because they have a better navigation thru their phone or just don't want any.

It's possible the dealer didn't put the paperwork thru yet and would let you buy one with nav and turn the one you have back to them. I wouldn't put any more miles on until I knew.

For 2013 (I don't know 2014), navigation is only standard in the Premium Collection in the US and it was the same in Canada according to the online 2013 Canadian brochure.

Correct. We had to pay an extra $800 US for the Nav option.

...and not everyone wants navigation that's why it almost always is an option.

This will sound harsh, but did you look at the window sticker? When spending $57k, I will always make sure I know what I'm buying BEFORE I buy it.

I disagree. Navigations are so commonplace now that for a luxury car like a Cadillac they should be a standard feature period. Optional on a Kia, Hyndua or Chevy. But a $57 k Cadillac should have Nav standard. I'm surprised.

meh I opted not to get nav - for 550 I can get an escort passport max and another 150 for a 5 inch garmin with lifetime traffic and maps. Sure it's not integrated in to the cue but I can take it with me when I go away on vacation. I have had full touch screen nav on my last 4 cars...I think I used it twice.

Why would you want to put a device on top of your beautiful dashboard with the ugly Garmin wire plugged into your lighter ? Versus having the nav already in your in dash screen. Makes no sense to me.

Re: Warning to potential buyers wanting true Navigation on their ATS

Unless you travel to places you are not familiar with, why pay for nav. Most people don't go on cross country trips, they fly and rent a car. I had nav in my last few cars, including my last two Cadillacs, and opted not to get it in the ATS. I will used Onstar if I need directions. Nav is a gimmick, that for most people, is a waste of money. The portable Garmin can be taken with you when you travel in the US and Europe (with updates) and is much more practical. Use your smart phone if you don't like the portable route.
Finally, why didn't you ask your salesman if your car had nav? You never should take anything for granted when purchasing/leasing a car.

Don't get me wrong, I know it's really my own fault, there was no sticker on it when I test drove it and just assumed that a $57000 Cadillac with an icon called "NAV" would have navigation. My $40000 Kia Sorento has it. Just really disappointed, I do a lot of driving holidays and never really plan anything ahead and I use my NAV all the time when travelling. I dont like using a stand alone GPS with the power cords etc. Just my preference.

Let us know if the dealer lets you return it and buy one with nav.

If not, while you have On* if you have a smartphone you can still load a destination yourself via the On* app without talking to someone over the phone. In fact I have the built-in nav and still have to use the On* app (or call) to get directions to some places because the nav system is not up to date or the voice recognition doesn't work. Example: there is a chain of restaurants in the Phoenix area called Ajo Al's. Every one has been in its current location for many years. Voice navigation can not understand Ajo Al's (spoken properly or phonetically) and keeps asking if I mean Taco Bell or something else after I respond no to that. I have a speech therapist relative and even she could not get it to recognize the name. But it really doesn't matter because if you type it in, it doesn't show all the locations, including the closest one to where I live. Of course I know where it is but I used nav anyway on th 2nd day with the car just for fun/practice. Wasn't that much fun. LoL

I use a cup holder mount for gps but I never really use it anyway. My radar is rear view mirror mounted so nothing on my dash.
