Mysterious Chimes - what is the six dings I was getting driving home today?

It was really strange. In a 45-minute commute I got the six dings or chimes about five or six times. Nothing on the dash alerted me to anything. I still have no clue as to what it was. With all that this car tells me you would think I would get a special light or message. Any thoughts?

Did you have anything on the passenger seat that might have triggered the "fasten seat belt" chimes?

Nothing heavy - just a laptop case.

That was probably enough. Ive had my cell phone or wallet set it off. Its way too sensitive. The passenger seat seatbelt warning indicator is above the rearview mirror on that panel.

Yeah for me just setting my iPad in the passenger seat will set it off. It's way too sensitive. I was thinking of taking mine to the dealer because I assumed my sensor was bad. But since other people are having this issue it sounds like there wouldn't be anything they could do.

Do you have lane assist? That is also configurable to chime instead of buzzing the seat should you approach a painted lane limiting line.

IIRC, things that are electric or magnetic (can't remember which one) placed on the passenger seat will make it think someone's sitting there. If it happens again, look near the map lights; you'll see the seatbelt light flashing

This was a light laptop - Macbook Air - in a case with a couple of other accessories - maybe 3.5 pounds. It was definitely having something on the seat as I have my lane guidance thing set to vibrate the seat, and it does.

Yup, I'm experiencing this problem as well. Sometimes, even my cell phone will set it off. Pretty annoying. You'd think they would be able to change the limit easily with a patch/flash, but it may not be that simple. Either way it should probably be addressed. No need for passenger airbag to deploy in an accident if it's not necessary.
