First post on here unfortunately is to complain about my new ATS. The car keeps stalling while in neutral when slowing down in traffic or stopping at a light. The idle stumbles a bit then its off. Its getting to be really annoying and I know if I go to the dealer it won't do it. Anyone else have this issue and know of a fix ?
Which data logger are you using?..
I have a couple of options, however not sure if Torque or OBD Link logs all of the data that would be useful. It seems the PID's it has the options to log don't cover all the sensors for the engine.. Hopefully I'm wrong.
I'll likely start logging with the tuning cable/Trifecta software as I believe that captures everything that's pertinent. Unfortunately though it's a pain in the ass to setup every time I go somewhere, considering it only stalls once in a while.
It is a "GM Kent Moore J-42598 B" It's not so bad, except I have to step over the cable attached to the OBDII port. Not sure what all it logs, I'm not sure the dealer knows either! I'm hoping it happens within a week though because it is kinda a pain
This is what I got from the service department when my car was in service
VEHICLE IS DESIGNED TO SHUT ENGINE OFF IF RPM'S ARE AT 500 WHEN COMING TO A STOP IN 3RD GEAR OR ABOVE. ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF TO PROTECT DUAL MASS CLUTCH FROM BEING DAMAGED. REC WHEN COMING TO A STOP THAT CUSTOMER SHIFT VEHICLE INTO FIRST OR SECOND GEAR OR NEUTRAL. THIS WILL PREVENT ENGINE FROM SHUTTING OFF WHEN ENGINE RPM IS AT 500. COMPARED TO LIKE MODEL AND YEAR. SAME AS LIKE MODEL.
update on my stalling. It has NOT stalled once since I took it to the dealer. They reflashed the new software update and I put over 1000 miles on it without it stalling once. I drove it hard, easy, full tank, empty tank ,hard breaking and everything. NO more stalling at all.
The ATS is a great car in every way except this issue. May I suggest a 6MT Acura TL? I've owned one before. The torque vectoring of SH-AWD makes it feel almost as nimble as the ATS.
Maybe all of us out here just don't know how to drive Cadillacs. That has to be it because I've been driving manuals for 15 years and none of them stalled while moving. Clearly, Cadillac needs to train us all on how to drive their cars because they obviously behave different than any other vehicle I've ever owned and/or driven.
As smiley averse as I am, that scared me for a second. I recall when Ford sold a bunch of Mustangs that would sporadically refuse to go into any gear (it nearly killed the owner of Boss302 #1). The most common reaction from other owners (fan boys) was that it actually was the driver's fault. Ford, seeing that reaction, realized they could do the same and avoid fixing them.
Hello fellow ATS owners, I too am a victim of the stalling issue, or should I say, MAJOR SAFETY FAULT ISSUE!?! I got my ATS over Labor Day weekend and immediately experienced the stalling, more frequently than most of you have posted. The dealer has had my ATS twice trying to replicate the stalling, with no luck. I finally installed a camera and documented the stalling and posted 2 videos on YouTube of it happening to me. This is my first Cadillac ever and I am so dismayed with it! My dealer has said I will be allowed to trade it out, or Lemon Law it, but I haven't heard from GM yet. In case it is helpful to your cases, the videos are at www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEWlSuHshpI, and www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnMz_ykPnLA. I really think the car is beautiful and fun/fast to drive, but I will not tolerate such a defect on such an expensive investment. It is too bad electrical advances also bring hard-to-find problems at times. My family's safety is PRICELESS, and GM better do the right thing for the owners of these defective models, and get busy finding the fix to it, so we can eventually enjoy these cars in the future.
Stalled again last night, this time the person behind of me got upset. I didn't even know the car stalled and the light turned green...as I went to accelerate.. nope, nothing. I am glad the person behind me did not rear end me, but they accelerated and went around me at a high rate of speed while throwing in a nice long honk.
You still have to file a report at NHTSA for them to care. Without a VIN and a way to contact you any complaint could just be Alan Mulally having some fun.
NHTSA Filed
Your Confirmation Number (ODI Number) is: 10549456
I URGE the rest of you to please file a complaint also!
I would even like to go as far as adding to the beginning of this thread or another thread the users who are having this issue and the ODI # from the NHTSA when they filed their complaint.
(Even though it should be by user) I will go as far as share my description of problem so that it will take literally 2 minutes to file a complaint.
My description below

Tell us what happended:
When coasting to come to a stop the vehicle engine will stall. This has happened numerous times since the first incident in January. This is a 6 speed manual transmission equipped vehicle, and the transmission is either in neutral or the clutch pedal is depressed so that the engine/transmission are decoupled. I have been able to watch the tachometer when it has stalled twice, and it seems to get to a lower RPM than normal (<500RPM) and then the engine just shuts off, very abruptly. It has also happened when slowing to take a turn with the clutch pedal depressed, which is very difficult to get back started as you are trying to drive and not cause an accident. I have reported this to the dealer, and they have tried to diagnose it, however no fix has happened. It will normally stall about once every week or so, it is very intermittent and seems more often with a higher load on the engine (hot days, A/C running, etc...). The dealer went as far as to blame me for stalling the vehicle, they said I didn't disengage the clutch at a high enough RPM which is completely untrue and regardless the car was in neutral and I was coasting to a stop (therefore it would be impossible to stall the vehicle in gear). I am not the only one with this issue, there have been numerous people on forums complaining of the same issue.

I made another thread to try consolidate all of us.
I was surprised we have 11 users currently having this issue in this thread alone!.
I suggest a separate thread for that with a title that actually asks people with the problem to file a report. And if there is a way to search reports like this on the NHTSA web site, include a link directly to the search results so we can easily see reports from people who aren't on the forum or are but don't post here
The power of social media to connect consumers will someday require companies to change how they do business. Traditional marketing will become less important, and quality/customer service will become more important; that is, a company's greatest marketing opportunities will come from satisfied consumers. It is not as far away as people may think.
I very much want to place my order for a 2014...but I can't see myself doing that until the issue is resolved.
Its time to launch a social media awareness campaign. Very simple. Everyone who has seen this thread or dealt with the issues, make a post on Cadillacs Facebook/Twitter/Instagram pages with links to this thread. Trust me, it is a VERY EFFECTIVE way to draw attention to an issue. And as a loyal GM fan...I can say that this is FOR GM, not against GM... I believe this issue has just been stuck at the middle management level....we simply need to by-pass whatever idiots are holding up the solution.
I also agree with bboren994, this needs to be raised to a serious level ASAP, any love I've had for GM over the years has dwindled to almost non-existent.
I disagree with the social media step at this point in time... I think everyone needs to start a lemon law case, so that this issue can become an epidemic for GM, and then Cadillac/GM will hopefully place a recall out for these vehicles. This is a very serious issue and not safe at all.....
ive read everything about this issue so far. its very hard to imgine this happening. i also have a 6 spd manual but i dont think it has stalled on its own. a few times i was surprised that it was stalled, because i THOUGHT i had pressed the clutch at the red light. but i just brushed it off as my fault. hasnt really happened as obviously as you guys are noticing it. hopefully it doesnt i guess. or they figure out whats causing this issue for everyone, and fix it, preventing it from happening on cars that have been lucky so far.
I just wanted to let everyone know that Laura and I are not ignoring this thread. We have been reaching out to various internal resources regarding this and are looking into the situation. We have also documented the concerns of those who have contacted us. If you haven’t contacted us regarding this issue yet, please feel free to if you would like our assistance. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post.
I just posted on Facebook (Nov 12, 2013). Before doing so I scrolled seeking out other posts, to no avail. My post will probably be buried very soon. It needs likes at the very least.

I just went to look at my post on Facebook to copy the link, and it is gone, within 3 minutes! Hey, whatever happened to free speech?!? Now I understand why I couldn't find other negative posts. Wow! GM should spend this kind of attention on FIXING their cars, and protecting their customers, not just their image!! I'm DISGUSTED!

Well, I went back again and found my post, under a small section called "Recent Posts by Others on Cadillac". With all that is posted by Cadillac, I don't feel anyone will ever see my post. Still disgusted...
