Will driving in Sport Mode cause excessive wear on engine/tranny?

I plan on keeping my ATS for 5-7 years. Although I occasionally drive spiritedly, maybe 20-40% of the time, I do drive in SM all the time. Does it really make any difference in engine wear and tear whether one drives in D or SM?

No; you will just have worst gas mileage. If you ran in sport mode for 7 years and another car ran in normal mode for seven years and you took the engines apart it would be hard to tell (or even measure) which one was driven harder.

The big thing is keeping it maintained; I would just use the engine oil life system as a guide. If you had two cars that were driven easy for seven years but one was not maintained and the other was and took the engines apart you could easily tell the difference.

Also your vehicle has a 6 year 70,000 mile powertrain warranty and a 6 year 70,000 courtesy transportation, so I wouldn’t worry.

They wouldn't have put it there if it could break the car A.F.A.I.K

the only car that I've driven that had a factory button that could seriously muck the car up if used too often was a Cobalt SS T/C. Launch Control and NLS lol, bunch of guys really #@$@'d there cars up using those haha!

Driving in Sport Mode: Will engine/transmission wear faster?

Will there be any difference in engine/transmission wear and tear between driving in SM or Tour? Assume that although driving in SM, one isn't always driving with the pedal to the metal (just occasionally when in the mood). I would think there would be some more wear in SM as I note that the car engine brakes when slowing down, among other possible factors.

For the life of me I always had the hardest time using the NLS on my Balt when I raced. It was just foreign to me to have the clutch stay down while shifting and that was always the last thing I wanted to focus on while racing. I also never used the launch control because I felt I could launch the car better without it. haha My SS/TC Balt was a fun little car that was kind of sad to part with when I got the ATS granted I like not fighting Torque Steer and having a much better suspension for cornering and handling.
