    engine overspeed limiter

I find the engine overspeed limiter on my 2013 ATS 3.6L V6 to be frustrating and downright stupid. I can't rev the engine in park or neutral past 3,000rpm. Since I haven't run into a lot of people who sit in their driveways and rev their engines till they blow, I can't understand what GM was trying to do with this latest trick. Anyone have any ideas why it's there and how to defeat it?

GM is not the only one to do this.....BMW's implementation of this extends into driving in that it has a variable redline that moves with engine temperature. GM at least lets you rev as high as you want once rolling

That's probably done to save the tranny from people that Rev it up in nutral and drop it in drive.

Many cars have this feature. It prevents people from trying to accelerate in park or neutral, when they think the trans is in drive.

You ever rev a gasoline engine in neutral to redline? It takes hardly any accelerator input and happens in the blink of an eye. Banging off the limiter is not good for an engine.

My '99 Seville STS had the same rev limiter too! But I think my 2000 Buick Regal didn't have it!
