Yeah but replacing doors with other cars seems a bit questionable to me. Remember that many cars now have VIN tags on doors, trunks, hoods, etc. swapping a door would mean that you would be getting a car with mismatched parts right from the start.

Not only that, but there's no guarantee that the do at door will be the same exact color (different build date, different batch of paint). You could end up with the same result as reprinting the door without blending.

The door will also have to be aligned. the hinge bolts will likely end up chipped and scratched... door jamb looks like crap.

Interior trim has to be removed to disconnect wiring harnesses, clips and plastic retainers can be damaged... more things to wonder if they were done right.

If they won't replace the car, the only way it's going to look as close to perfect as possible, is to paint the door, and blend.

FWIW, the body shops' work at my dealer, is horrible... ABYSMAL.

Re: Another horror story about paint?

I talked with the general sales manager; she is a nice and understanding lady! She told me that the paint guy had made a mistake and used a different color code, but she promised this time it will be OK. So we agreed to have the door painted one more time. I spoke with GM too, actually they called me! Our customer service here had prepared a case and forwarded my info to GM's district specialist. I told them that I am not happy with what happened to my car, and I am not happy that my car needs paint work, but things happen. So painting the entire door is OK IF they match it perfectly. But if I end up with a mismatched door, that's going to be a different story!

So now I am waiting to see how the painted door will look. i am really hoping that it will be a perfect paint job and I will be able to move on!

They need to swap out the door. They had one chance to fix it and their "paint guy" botched it. Guarantee that paint guy knew it didnt match when he sent it back to the dealer. If you saw it, he saw it.

I got the ATS back, and she looks great again! I inspected the paint thoroughly, from different angles, and I really couldn't find anything wrong.
