    ATS 2.0 Engine Internals

We've got a 2.0 completely torn apart and we're looking every component over. There are some cool things things in there! I've got some pics here, nothing too special, but still cool. I'll get some pictures up of the pistons with the oil squirters...these pistons have a cast ring in them to let the oil circulate around and cool the piston!

I'll keep updating the thread, but for now I've got more work to do!

Very nice info. I am looking forward to buying some pieces to upgrade to the 350 rwhp level. That will satisfy me, at least for a while.

My biggest concern with DI is valve coking, I know the 3.6 does it badly, the equinox was plagued with it, and the 2.0T in the cobalt SS did it badly to.

    Pretty cool.

Where I work we took apart an ENTIRE ATS 2.0T and weighed and documented every single part... down to tinny nuts and bolts

Just curious, what does you company do? Why are you documenting the 2.0T?

If I had to guess, he owns a Mazda and competing cars companies disassemble competing cars all the time. Therefore maybe he works for a car company or supplier-maybe Mazda.

Haha bingo! I actually work for Ford. While I work in new engine manufacturing, the group next door to us tears apart competing cars and we have access to see them at all stages of tear down. Normally a car every week or two. Mainly for bench marking purposes. Few weeks ago it was a fully loaded XTS Platinum. Pretty neat to see all the internals of various cars.

That's up to the dealer. Ford just took the car for an extended test drive.

Those are nicely engineered parts. Note the triple cam chain and the roller cam followers. Makes me feel confident that my 2.0 turbo is built to last. Would like to get a look at the pistons and con rods. But anybody who has looked at the premium parts on the ATS shouldn't be surprised: the ZF steering rack, the alloy suspension pieces, the polished brake booster, etc. Even the cross brace under the tranny is a thing of engineering beauty.

Still very impressed with the internals. The pistons have oil squirters and a channel for the oil to circulate in the piston head for better cooling. Very nice valvetrain components, these engines are definitely built to last and well engineered. Just some more random pics:
