This car has probably saved my life (or at least some serious damage) twice already.

In my first week driving this car, I was driving (with my 4 1/2 year old son in the back) on a fairly busy road. I was traveling about 45 MPH. The road has a freeway style entrance from another busy road on the right hand side. A particularly bright individual decided to enter with no care for whom might be already in the lane they were entering, which was in fact occupied. The equally intelligent individual in said lane decided to swing over when the aforementioned genius jumped into their lane, again with no regard for who may have been on their left. The last person in the genius trifecta then in turn swerved into my lane which was the far left lane; with nowhere to go other than the concrete divider. With no other recourse I slammed on the brakes and braced myself for the imminent collision. Lo and behold, the brembos grabbed and the tires gripped with barely a shudder and the ATS effortlessly dropped back and let the car into my lane. I was impressed and relieved. My son then yelled at me for it, lol.

Today I was entering a highway, exiting from another highway, and the turn was a lot sharper than I was anticipating. I couldn't hit the brakes because I was afraid my rear end would kick out and I would fish-tail and I couldn't take the turn wide because I would have wound up in the flow of traffic (see what happens in that case above). I held tight, guided the car through the curve and with minimum squeal and a ton of grip I held my ground, straightened out and kept going. I could really feel how rigid the frame was and how perfect the weight is balanced. I knew even before it was over that it was going to be fine.

Needless to say, I am even more pleased today than yesterday.

The ATS chassis and brakes are indeed amazing. It's what made me decide to switch to the ATS after two BMWs despite the 3-series' better engines, transmissions, and interior room. Glad to hear that your more extreme "tests" bore that out, and glad you survived both incidents unscathed!

Today I was driving to work. I rounded a right turn in a dedicated right turning lane on a green light onto a 40 mph two lane. Traffic coming from the other direction was gridlocked. My lane was free and clear. I rounded the turn an approached 40 very quickly. (The car is very powerful.) Behold, from nowhere a car emerged, sneaking through the line of cars waiting on the light, making a left turn very slowly. It was going to T-Bone collision. I hit the breaks hard and held on. With nowhere to go, the car came to a straight, level and fast hault. The antilocks breaks barey pulsated as the car decelerated. One quick dart to the right near the end and our two cars came side to side, sideways but stopped in our lane. No contact. No squeal. Just quick stoping and easy maneuvering through the crisis averted. The car never even left the pavement. The tires gripped hard without complaint and the car did everything it should have done... Stop and miss the obstical. I was amazed and undamaged. My DTS would have impacted hard, airbags and all. We all went on our way. Way to go cadillac!

And yes, it's twice for me too. The first time I was driving along looking for an address with the nav system. The voice said my destination was on the left. I looked over my shoulder searching for it, when the seat started to shake and the light flashed in the windshield. Traffic had stopped, but not me. I hit the breaks and all was well. Not nearly even a close call thanks to the warning. Everything did its job perfectly. Again, I'm amazed.

    Bring this subject back.

Three months with car, first emergency braking situation today. Traffic moving at 125 km. Then..seat vibrates, red light flashes in windshield. The guy in front is coming to a compete emergency stop. I hit the breaks and I'd swear I was in an F1. The car stopped way short of guy in front, and was straight as an arrow. Seemed unnecessary for me to hold the steering wheel. I've hit the breaks hard before, but never full on at hi-way speed.

Best brakes I've ever driven, and the Forward Collision Warning has saved me once also: although, I was distracted by CUE at the time, so it is sort of a wash
