    Back Up Camera questions...

I have read the manual but it isn't clear to me...at exactly what distance (from an object) does the first warning come on? Also, in the DIC on the dashboard, there is a visual of the car with bands (three bands)...at what distance do these bands come on? How far away are you from an object when all three bands are lit? I do realize these are different for the front and the back. To that point...why are they different for the front and back; I'd love to know the philosophy behind that. This is my first car with radar and a back up cam and I welcome any/all insights/advice into the use of it.

A long explanation would not do you much good. Just find a brick wall and drive up to it, stop at each line and get out of the car and see the visual. It is pretty self-explanatory.

Front and rear use similar sensors, so the information should be the same, but the rear is more arched, so I expect an earlier warning.

The back-up camera shows different markings, and they are fairly close distance, the camera views downwards.

You'll get used to it quickly.

Well, your idea is a valid one...however it did not work for me. My back up camera seems a bit persnickety. For one, if you are going too fast you can drive right through the wall - no bars will light up. If you go back too slow it seems to "time out" - mirrors flip back up and the bars (which turn colors) disappear from the DIC. I tried backing up several times as per your suggestion but to no avail. I am confident I could back through a brick wall before I'd get three bars or any other alert. This is going to take some serious consideration and research to determine when the camera alerts. I have noticed that if it sees a concrete lip (on the ground) of 2-3 inches it will "trigger" the system but BIG obstacles like brick walls...don't seem to bother it. Can these cameras be "fine tuned"?

    Thanks.

Your radar is probably out of whack and needs to be taken to the dealer....I have a solid, brick wall when I pull into my garage and the radar alerts me to the perfect distance every single time (final red bar, multiple beeps)...same when I back out...any object in the radars way is detected, bars activate and you can choose three distances in which to stop; red being the minimum distance for safety.

Thanks RustyBear - I'll ask the dealer about this WHEN I drop my car off for the CUE update.
