We are delighted to know you are considering Cadillac as your next vehicle of purchase! In response to your inquiry, at this time, General Motors does not plan on producing an ATS Coupe to our Cadillac family, however; vehicle options are primarily based on customer feedback, and we have reported a suggestion to our designers on your behalf. We thought you would like to know Cadillac will be introducing a luxury coupe featuring extended-range electric technology called the Cadillac ELR and production is scheduled to begin in late 2013. Here is a link where you may find more information regarding the all-new Cadillac ELR; http://www.cadillac.com/elr-electric-car.html.

Its sophisticated driving experience is enhanced with Cadillac CUE, a comprehensive, in-vehicle user experience that merges intuitive design with industry-first controls and commands for information and media data.

We do want you to know we appreciate your patronage and hope that you will give us the chance to prove that General Motors does make the best line of vehicles in today's auto market. We invite your personal comparisons and inspections of our vehicles, there is nothing like a test drive to help you make that ultimate purchase decision. Don't lose your hopes yet. Opel replied to me that they didn't plan any bigger model than the Insignia. Now there are rumors of a Lacrosse/Impala/XTS platform based Opel...
So they might want to protect future plans and try to sell the sedan or ELR to you first instead?

The next Camaro is planned for Alpha, so why not a coupe? Alpha is THE luxury platform to make money with by offering multiple variants of it.

According to Peter Delorenzo (the "Auto Extremist"), there is a coupe (in the works); I wouldn't hold my breath but it probably is in the pipeline (along with an ATS-V). That's, as they say, is my best guess.

    Re: What! NO ATS COUPE!!!

I don't think Cadillac would release coupe/wagon info yet to individuals if they haven't made those plans public yet. With the CTS losing the wagon (and possibly the coupe?) for 2014 already, there's a void where those used to fit in their lineup. Everything is still just speculation until they give updated press info.

Don't worry, the rumors are strong that the ATS platform will pick up some of this, they just can't come out and make it official yet.

They might be right. The CTS coupes rear seat is pretty small, has limited headroom because of the slope of the back of the car, and is extremely hard to get in and out of so trying to make a coupe out of a smaller car is going to be a challenge.

I'm more concerned about no wagon.

Though I doubt they really need a wagon since there are only one or two buyers (besides me) interested and I'd only be interested in a manual transmission. The CTSV wagon with the manual is great but I am not willing to put up with the fuel economy nor be willing to shell out that much for a car (even though it is reasonable for what you get).

What a strange response considering they originally said there would be more variants coming later to the ATS lineup based on the ATS and ATS-V based on customer feedback and they have stated that Cadillac has been toying around with coupe, wagon, and hatchback version of the car along with a 2 door convertible version of the ATS and ATS-V !

That is mainly because of the extreme styling on the CTS coupe. If the ATS coupe is more conservative, it can have a lightly useable back seat.

    Re: What! NO ATS COUPE!!!

They probably don't want to saturate an already tiny coupe market. They need to move out CTS coupes, they are bringing the ELR; who knows, with the C7 due, a new XLR might be around the corner.

Like others said, I would bet on an ATS coupe eventually. Just not right now.

They are not bringing out an XLR they have a proposal for a new sports car that is based on the ATS and not on the C7 . They said no XLR but building a sports car based on the ATS makes more sense since it would be a true Cadillac and not a Cadillac that is based on a Chevy . This sounds great since it would have 2 doors a V8 and be designed as a Cadillac and sports car from the start .

The Alpha was designed with the next Camaro in mind.

Considering the amount development that goes into the Corvette, it's not unreasonable to base the XLR on it. There are rumors around that say another XLR is indeed coming at some point.

Yes but the Alpha is the platform that the XLR replacement would be based on and not the C7 ! The proposal also said that a cheap RWD Chevy coup would be based on the XLR replacement that is similar to the Chevy Code R concept . Apparently Cadillac has stated again and again that a XLR replacement needs to be a Cadillac from the start and not be based on another GM brands car ! The Cheap Chevy that is based on the XLR would help development cost . If they were smart they would also base a Buick on the XLR replacement .

    Re: What! NO ATS COUPE!!!

I always fail to understand why it matters what platform a car is built on. A great car is a great car; a lousy car is a lousy car; no matter what the underlying dna may be. The Corvette is a very good platform that is very cost effective (at least compared to the supercars it easily spanks).

If GM is making decisions based on the heritage of a platform, rather than the merits of platform, that would likely explain why success continues to elude them.
