Most American cars have 6 cogs, therefore 8 aren't necessary.

The intent?? To make an affordable car. If you don't care about that, go buy your Bugatti and leave us commoners alone.

Well, if 6 isn't enough for you, and maybe even 8 isn't enough for you:

That line is ridiculous. There are ALWAYS tradeoffs. ALWAYS!! You cannot offer the best of the best in every way at competitive prices while staying in business. I really dont believe that you are seriously making this argument, you are obviously playing a joke here. That facts are that the 8 speeds gearbox was postponed. The likelyhood of buying a 7 or 8 speed from another gearbox manufacturer is low, as there is a limiting factor called production capacity. The LS (almost in its 5th generation), like Lexus as a brand has been around since 89. Thats almost 25 years. Thats not a short amount of time. A short amount of time would be the 10 years that Cadillac has been building its own entry level vehicle, which spawned the ATS, the 1st entry-level luxury vehicle to give the 3 series a serious run for its money since the E30 came out in 81. BMW may not be benchmarking the ATS or any Cadillac, but maybe they should be. Let me know when the 328i has CUE, MRC, and Brembos while maintaining everything it has now, while also lowering the price by about $5k.

Oh God not another GM-Ford transmission, we all know how great the 6 speed one they teamed up on is, constantly blowing up and whatnot...

Constantly? There were some early problems, sure. But it's a solid transmission.

For the most part it was, but I was trolling pretty hard.

It's for sure better than GM's old 4 speed though...
