idle problem when hot

problem for anyone out there. Rough idle only when car gets hot. Over half way up on the gauge. If gauge is below half (which it normally is) runs and idles great. Of course I have not done plugs, wire or any tune-up yet. This normally happens when car is in heavy slow traffic or at idle. One you get moving temp goes down and idle is smooth again. (Both fans are working).
Car does not overheat even if at idle for hour.

We had an Allante' come in with the same complaint a couple weeks ago. It didn't even run well cold as far as I was concerned. It had original spark plug wires and we found a lot of arching inside the cap. In the replacement process found one of the plugs was wet. After a tuneup- plugs wires cap rotor it was better and probably good enough but still not 100%. An ECM got it the rest of the way. So bottom line it could be any of above, or a combination, or possibly even an injector problem. Original spark plug wires are beyond their expected service life. If you do replace the wires, make sure sure you use coated plugs or coat the exterior of the plugs with suitable silicone or di-electric grease or the boots will weld onto the plugs.
