If you look at the autobahn, there are some big differences compared to the US:
- People are used to driving at higher speeds and expect fast cars
- Rigorous and mandatory vehicle safety inspections every two years
- Much more demanding driver education and testing required to obtain your licence
- Better road maintenance
- Autobahn construction (curve radius etc.) actually designed for high speed
So, while "cruising" at 100 mph on the Autobahn is a non-issue in good weather and light traffic, it would scare the c*** out of me on the 405 freeway in LA!
The point as to our Allantes: the car handles just fine at speeds well above 100 mph and can run at those speeds for hours at a time without ill effect. (I can only speak for the 93 Northstars)
There are to many wimps in this world, and lifes to short !!
I had mine up to 124, when it would'nt go anymore.
5;30 Am I-5 freeway in Washington state
Yea, I got my thrill and nobody else on the road.

are you speak of experience or you simply repeating
what you read somewhere?

I really did do 119 mph. BUTTT..... I have 17" wheels & tires which make my speedo read a little lower. So according to MY calculations , I estimated it to 124.
I learned a lot in that moment such as, my licence plate started flapping, and I needed a new top of winshield weather seal and around the drivers window past 90 mph.
Yes it was fun
Yes I had the road to myself
Yes my adrenaline was flowing like a teenager with the old mans ride.
Yes I will do it again after a double espresso
Re: What is the fastset you had your Allante up to?
there is a long stretch going north, between Gorman Pass and the Grape Vine,
BEFORE the longggg downhill, a slight downhill, where i have ran my cars at
top speeds - meaning there is no more speed in the car.
the Allante has yet to get a chance. i used to do that on my way to
Castle AFB from UCLA (in the dating days), usually at around 3am, no CHP,
no traffic but once i had a 8ft dia tumbleweed roll in front of me at around
105, plowed through it and to this day, i have yet to recover from that
near death experience... nothing bad happened, but let me tell you,
it is scary. imagine if that had been a cow ?
Re: What is the fastset you had your Allante up to?
Bill,
GM conservative speed rating is of 125mph for 1987 model to
150 mph for 1993 models. Trust me when i say that a 20 year old '88
can blow by that 125mph rating and survive to tell about it.
then consider that your '89 has 30 hp more than my '88.
do that all day? wouldnt know where to try that except at a track and
i know for my '88 to sustain a 125+ speed, some duct tape mods would be
in order, along with change in tire pressure and cant use the A/C - nope you cant.
also, a cool day be good.

drove the 240 miles to the Johnny Monzo meet at the GM Nationals at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. 100 mph like sitting on the couch at home! Expected you to be visiting the'93 G.A.R.Y. in Pa but no rather visit the blondes and tulips I guess!
Re: What is the fastset you had your Allante up to?
Bill,
on an Allante, 100mph is nothing and its speed is felt only when
you see triple 1's on the dash .. the 111
are we to assume you drove the '89 Allante?
tulips?
Gary is gonna say what are tulips?
ok .. gary, a lesson ... "to lips", a flower that resembles a portion
of the female anatomy usually found in bed as compared to the flower
variety found in the flower vase.
does that help?

Again for your edification, the tulips are in Holland and the blondes are in Sweden. I will not address your passion with tulips here, but you are right about being with the blondes in Sweden as opposed to the 93 in Pa., hands down.
However, I will be going to Pa in the next month or so to crank up the 93 N*
and get her to 111 shortly thereafter. (no reason to stop at 100). I will also try to remember to take photos of the Franklin and the 32 Lincoln whilst I'm there for the other place.
Carlisle is a gas, used to go every year, haven't been in about 10 years though. Would like to hear about the trip.
Re: What is the fastset you had your Allante up to?
my 4100 can do that on 7 cyl.
why limited to 111 ?
your N* can do that on maybe 6 cyl's.
