    Unhappy Frustrated--pull down

My rear pull down motor keeps running and it wont go up OR down.
I took it apart and can't tell anything wrong! 1990 model.

Look carefully at the gearnut that drives off of the motor shaft. It is probably stripped. Also check for cracks in the clear plastic housing.

There have been a few threads on how they get dirty and fail to work, and it's fairly common. Try doing a search for "pulldown" or "trunk closer repair" and see what you get. Apparently they are fairly easy to take out and clean thoroughly, at least for a Deville.

Rear pulldown is referring to the top or the trunk?

Here is a link to a thread about convertible pull down motors/tops.

Most likely the gear case is cracked and the gear is stripped.

It will probably strip again if you did not also replace the housing.

gmpartsdirect.com would be one source. The housing is part number 20160581. The gearnut is part number 20160587. Same parts for all year Allantes.
