Speedometer reads when car is stopped

When I come to a full stop on my 87 the Speedometer reads 25-35 mph. The engine races and the transmission acts weird. Then when I hit the gas it stalls. The car drives fine as long as I don't stop. I remember reading about this problem before but can't remember the cause. Can anyone help? Thanks!

My 87 had this exact same problem. I was told to replace the alternator, I did , but it didn't fix it. Call Dick Hussey. He was telling me to replace the pigtail plug to the alternator.

Anyway I got tired of it and traded in the car and bought a new CTS.

How long have you had the car??? I have a brand new alternator for your car. Also a bunch of other stuff, hardtop, etc.
