I am looking for a convertible pulldown motor for a 1990 Allante the company says that part is obsolete and no longer available. Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What has actually failed? Just about all the parts in the assembly, including the 16608837 motor, are still available new except the position switches. Tom Rohner and Dick Hussey have complete used assemblys available, or they can rebuild yours.

There are actually a number or parts that can break beyond the motor, gear housing, and gear, such as the latch parts and the main casting that holds the latch assembly to the motor. The insulators also get chewed up. Since there are no more assemblies available from GM, we have had these parts reproduced so we can repair these units properly. The new castings will be available within a month or so, and we already have the insulators and latch parts.

If it turns out to be a cracked housing, then search for a rear hatch pull down motor assembly (or just the housing) used in the third generation F-bodies. The plastic housings are identical.

The clear plastic housing and plastic gearnut are available new from GM.
