    Re: can anyone tell why

I would inspect the engine grounds 1st. There at a bunch on the bolt holding the alternator on, as well as one just above the starter on the engine block. Theres one on the strut tower brace as well. Theres another below the alternator on one of the water pump bolts. The one on the water pump can be cut and a new eyelet installed so it too can be attached to the alternator bolt for easier access. Assuming all these points have been removed and cleaned and it still flickers, I would suspect an ABS pump drawing too many amps as it turns on. Each and every time you apply the brakes, the ABS supply pump turns on. I've also seen the alternator have a weak voltage regulator and cause this. To confirm, have a load test done on the alternator. Should produce close to 100 amps when loaded.

This car is VERY touchy regarding battery state of charge as well as alternator output. I would use a donor battery to see if the flickering quits. THEN.... buy a good battery. The Battery is the heart of this car!

I can tell you that a bad connection at the battery will cause your symptom. That being so, it follows that a bad battery could also cause it.
