    Re: Radio woes

here are some pics of the real speaker and the amp, as well as an amp and speaker from a sevilee and the door speaker from a 92 Eldorado, as you can see the speaker enclosures are designed specifically for each car that they are installed in, so a speaker from the eldorado, does not fit directly into the door of the Allante. However, the speaker and amp will transfer between the two enclosures relatively easily.

here is the Allante speaker enclosure opened up, notice the metal box directly below the speaker itself, about the size and thickness of a deck of playing cards, this is the Bose Amp.

Here is a 1992(ish) Eldorado Front Door Bose Speaker Assembly, notice it is quite a bit larger but the speaker itself as well as the amp inside are the same size as the Allante.

Here is a Bose Amp and Speaker out of a early 90's Sevile ( going by memory here) again, the amp is basically the same, only the speaker and assembly is different.

And here we have the Amp itself, when removed from the metal casing ( just 4 tiny screws, easy disassemble)

I hope this visual helps clarify the process a bit.

    Matt

Thanks Matt, But why are the speakers required with amps? What does an ampless speaker do to the system?

    Re: Radio woes

The radio has no amp built in! So no output of audio. It is a pre amp radio. Regarding swapping amps from another car, read the decal on the amp. It will say which side of the car and whether it goes front or rear. I got mine from a Corvette. Approx the same interior volume (size) so the sound wasn't altered. Notice the second to last picture, the harness plugs into the amp. In the last picture, the wiring is soldered to the amp. Allante's use the plug in style amp which makes it easy to upgrade.

    Re: Radio woes

I found a set of 99 Eldorado speakers and a set of 90s Seville speakers very cheap . Both guarantee them to work but who knows. Less than 75 bucks for two. That a good deal?

    Re: Radio woes

The speakers themselves rarely fail. The amps do but, again, to have 4 failed amps is highly unlikely! Yes the display will show on the tower with no radio audio. Again, is there power to the radio receiver behind the glove box?

    Re: Radio woes

Power to receiver is only part of the equation, you need to confirm power to the speaker Amps..
