I need help just bought my first allante today! Is a 89 4.5 needs some work but its nice. The only problem is the transmission hates 4th gear. When you need 4th gear you have to rev it very high and than it shifts up than down than up again and stays. I am good with cars but not with transmission any help would be great!

ASTG has a repair manual for the 4T60 (440-T4) transmission in PDF format which can be downloaded from their site for $8.00 : https://www.atsg.us/atsg/gm-manuals-1.html. I can't offer any technical advice, never worked on this model transmission.

This trans is controlled thru a T.V. cable. It controls line pressure in relation to throttle input. If the cable is misadjusted, it will delay shifting or be erratic. Have a transmission shop adjust it then report back. Most likely the reason the car was sold. Should take 15 min. max. AND buy a factory service manual. Best tool you ever bought for this car!
