I'm thinking of converting the air conditioning on my 93 Allante from R-12 to R134A. Does anybody here have experience with this? I would appreciate anything anyone can tell me to help with this process. My neighbor who owns the gas station up the street has advised me to have this done due to the expense of R12 and I'd just like to know if there are any issues peculiar to our Allantes that I need to know about before getting this done. He's telling me this will cost around $250 to complete.
Right now my a/c doesn't work because all the coolant has leaked out and the compressor is shutdown. So I was going to have it in to find this slow leak and replace the R-12, but my neighbor told me I should just go ahead and convert it over since the R-12 is so much more expensive than the R-134A. I think he said it's about 5 times more.

oh in that situation then yes. as far as i know though youll need a new compressor which is the most expensive part of the conversion. some also say you need new condenser orifice tube and other components, some say those arent necessary. id ask the ac specialist exactly which parts hes replacing and tell him you want to be as safe as possible. nothing is worse than having to pay to do it again
