On my 88, I used a mid 90's Z28 muffler and added another cut out under the right rear of the bumper. Used aftermarket stainless rectangular tips that mimicked the Z28 tips but were better quality. It sounded great at idle and under power but was quiet otherwise.

First, my cat converter is rattling so I'm going to replace it with a pipe, (pre-96 is exempt from emissions test in Illinois), then I'm going to use a Magnaflow stainless muffler and a dual stainless, round, rolled exhaust tip existing in the standard location.

I'll need to fab some pipe since the '91 uses a 3" flange on the cat, a 2-3/4" pipe to the back into the muffler, and then a 2-1/2" pipe out of the muffler to the rear exhaust.

The 2-3/4" adapters from 3' and then down to 2-1/2" into the Magnaflow muffler are more difficult to find.

I may check with a exhaust shop about making up some of the necessary pipe chunks to eliminate joints.

Was the muffler Allante-only or did GM pull it out of the parts bin somewhere? Maybe the same as used on those years Eldo or Seville.
