I sold my Allante this evening after advertising it for about 3 months. Interest started peaking in the past couple weeks. One friend had the theory that folks see convertibles on the road and then start looking for one, rather than buy in the spring. The selling price was $8K, which was my bottom line price for selling it this year rather than next. I figured it would probably be worth $10K next year with an improved economy. However, it costs about $2k a year for plates, insurance, winter storage, and annual service.
The buyer lives about an hour away and was choosing among two Allantes, a 94 BRG / tan Jag, and a mid-80s MB SL. He looked at the Allante the first time on Friday, called on Sunday to say he still hadn't made up his mind between the Jag and the Allante, and bought it tonight. I thought the Jag was a shoo-in because he was driving a Jag when he came up on Friday. (Maybe that's why he didn't want another. LOL)
Anyway, I'll still be hanging around. It turns out that our lives have been turned upside down as my wife was recently diagnosed with rather advanced breast cancer. She has a treatment plan that will last at least 8 months. She will start daily radiation treatments in about February, so I'm considering also selling my RWD Dakota and using the proceeds of both car sales to buy something like a used AWD Subaru Outback for a winter driver.
First, my most humble sympathies regarding your wife; what horrible news. Know we're all hoping for a quick recovery.
Sad to see you no longer among the Allante owners; you've always been an active here on the forums, though I doubt that will change. $8K in hand seems like a fair price; if you and the new owner were happy then I guess all is good.
