The CART safety car and The PPG Allante pace cars were used as development test beds to determine what chassis components would be required to handle 300hp in a front drive car. Much of the knowledge gained from these cars was applied to the future Cadillacs when the Northstar was introduced. These production based cars proved to be much more reliable than the exotic cars PPG had used previously.
