150k miles is not that big of a deal. Why replace tranny if nothing is wrong?
It can be re-built. Any problems with the motor at this time? Any codes?

Freudian slip. That's how much we spend on the car over its life for maintenance and repairs.

Leave the engine and transmission alone. Most of the times, the only thing major that the Northstar engine is worked on is due to headgasket failure.

AND THAT is only due to not changing the coolant enough.

I said it before, I will say it again,

IGNORE GM's 5/10 year coolant change,
go with TWO YEARS or less and
the engine will go 300,000 miles +++.
