Not the Visor itself, but the Mirror doors rattle

I've seen a lot of the posts regarding FVS (Floppy Visor Syndrome). Has anyone found a fix for the mirror door?

When I go over a bump, the mirror door rattles. It seems like the spriings that would normally hold the mirror door open are shot. When I open the flap, it does not stay open and rattles when the visor is up when the top is down!

After 5 years of trials and tribulations, repairs and workarounds with the darn things, I took them off .. who needs then anyways. Not a one of the so called FIXES worked for more than a few months and I put in more time into the visors than ANY other thing on the car. I tried Bill's fix, Jane's fix, Joe's fix .. nothing worked for the long run. IMHO, the very worst feature on the Phase-I cars.

Then I bought a Phase-II car. Not having to deal with the darn visors is by far the best thing on my '92. They actually work well and I havent spent any time on them.

My mirror doors don't rattle, but they don't seem to have any means of latching shut either. The will flop open if the visor is in such a position to let gravity do its stuff. I'm going to put some velcro dots in place which should work. I think that may solve your problem as well.

The reason they rattle is the tabs on the back of the frame .break and the spring tension is lost. Other late 1980's Cadillacs use the same mirror as your Allante', so finding a good used one is possible

I did see one car that had a large rubber band around the visor .. Allante guys can be sooooo ingenious, sooooo creative.

where were they when the designed the cars?

one of my cars got a dose of GOOP .. wonderful stuff for any Allante owner; one should carry a few tubes in the trunk.

I just use the large binder clips on the visors and they hold them at a perfect horizontal position. My mirror doors are held in place by a small sunglass holder/clip. Works for me!
