It was a beautiful day today and I was running around town with my top down enjoying the sun and mild temps. However I became aggrevated because the passenger side visor wouldn't stay up. It would flop down with the slightess little bump in the road. Has anyone found a cure for floppy visors?
this is a common problem, new visors should fix it but at a premium $200 from allantestore.com
mine work great luckily but ilve heard great things about the "fuel line fix" from the allante FAQ's http://12.158.117.40/FAQ/faq.htm go to dropie visor repairs and then click next page there it is
also you can use a "chip clip" (used for closing potato chip bags) to clamp it up
Thanks Ryan, I went to that web site and the pictures really made it clear. I could not imagine what you meant by "Fuel Line" Repair. I thought to myself what on earth does a floppy visor have to do with the fuel line. Pictures are worth a thousand words . I will tear them down my first opportunity.
I have fixed my floppy visors and I used the method that you directed me to on the AAG site and I owe that fellow a vote of thanks for showing me how to remove the visor and get to the needed hardware, but his tubing fix didn't work for me. I had a heck of a time getting the tubing on the shaft and then was not able to get the visor back on. I looked at his posting once more and decided that it worked for him because he had broken pieces both on the visor and the shaft. The visor has a plastic tunnel for lack of a better word, that the shaft slides into. The tunnel has notches that accept the wings on the plastic slides mounted on the shaft. The AAG guy had a broken wing piece and he essentially replaced his wing piece with the tubing. None of my stuff was broken so I used a piece of 3/8" shrink tube. This tubing shrinks when heat is applied to it and tightens around whatever it is applied to. I cut a length of tube, slide it over the winged piece and heated it. The shrink tube was long enough to engulf the winged piece and part of the shaft on either side adding a degree of resistance. I reassembled the whole mess and it worked well.
My fix didn't hold up under July heat and 107 degrees in a parked car. So I went the fuel line route and it improved but still didn't hold up under a lot of heat. I finally went to the end of the visor that clips into the holder in the center of the windshield. I wrapped the end piece in a couple of turns of black plastic electrical tape and that seems to have added the little bit of resistance that I needed to hold them up.
Periodically, there's a guy that posts on ebay, with a pair of visor "clutches", that he designed and sells. They're not cheap, I think I paid right at $100 for the pair, but they install in 5 minutes, blend in well, and cure the problem.
