Hi everyone! I am new to the forum. I just bought a 1987 Gold Allante with 91K. I have a couple of questions that I hope I can get some help with. First, the person I bought the car from had the car sitting for the last several years and would occasionally start it up. Anyway, the "Anti-Lock Diabled" waring comes on (does not stay on). Could this have anything to do with the long period it sat? Is this something I may be able to fix or is off to the dealer?
The turn signals worked for the first couple of days, now nothing (inside or out), no waring light or info shows up. It's as if the car has no turn signals. Any help or would be appreciated.
The anti lock disabled is a normal message when the car is first started for the day or after an extended shut down. The hydrallic pump just under the air cleaner assembly turns on to re- pressurize the master cyl. accumulator assembly. The message should last about 20 to 30 seconds. Its extreemly important to flush the old brake fluid out of the master cyl at a minimum of 2 yr. intervals. Contaminated brake fluid will damage the master cyl. the replacement cost is well over a thousand dollars!! Turn signals inop could be a fuse. this car has no flasher like other cars. Do yourself a favor and log onto www.allantesource.com and read the tutorial on how to check brake function. Also would be a good idea to call him as well. Great source of new owner info.

Everything carnut said .. but .. flush the ABS system YESTERDAY .. and for your sake, repeat in about six months .. thereafter, I recommend annually in a rainy area, every two years in dry areas.
if the system "kicks back", repeat every three months until it improves, by getting the old crud out ..
any flushing you do goes to saving you the $1,000 expense ..
by far, the best money you will ever spend is the ABS flush ..
next in line: coolant .. do that tonight.

DONT DRIVE IT!!!!! brakes can and will fail at any time leaving you with no assist. Thats why he sold it DUH! The signal issue probably has to do with the cluster. An open circuit. Contact allantesource and please read the ABS diagnostic thread. AGAIN!! DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR!! First thing to do while its sitting in the driveway is to pump the brake pedal at least 25 times ( car turned off!)to depressurize the ABS system, then verify brake fluid is above the minimum line on the master container. If not, top it off. Then do the diagnostics listed in order by Mr Hussey.
Early
Bill Miller and Stealth are pretty smart guys regarding Allante's. Heed their words and go to Dick Hussey immediately. It is going to cost you $1000 to fix this problem.. Do not try to short cut the system. I had an opportunity to SAVE $350 by buying a manufactured unit with a three year guarantee from another individual. Saving that $350 will cost me at least another $1000 in stupidity charges of tearing the parts on and off, shipping charges, fighting the warranty etc. Dick Hussey is THE Allante GOD not only because of his knowledge and parts organization but his devotion to the Allante hobby with an endless willingness to help.
Listen to us old S_ _ _ s and take the lessons we learned the hard way to heart.
The antilock message comes up when it starts, but also turns on and off the whole time I am driving.
jeesssssssssssss .. we gave advice on the info provided .. it has hence changed .. PARK IT, NOW !!!!!! TOW IT HOME ...
Most likely you only need an ACCUMULATOR $200,
or the ebrake not fully released .. (reach under the dash, over the ebrake pedal and pull on the manual release)
How long does the message stay on? It is natural for it stay on for 15 seconds or so. I would consider changing out the brake fluid as the Bosch III is a pretty sensitive system. Somewhere on this site there is a series of brake tests one can perform to determine if the system is working properly. The turn signals might just be a blown fuse. Look at your owner's manual to see which fuse controls it. There is a fuse box under the ash tray that shoudl be labeled.

it is normal for the message to be on for up to 25 seconds when you first start the car but should never come on while driving. If it does, the car needs to be parked.
it could be as simple as the ebrake not fully released .. reach under the dash, just over the brake pedal and pull it ..
but if not that, it could be a major issue that could leave you w/o any brakes at all.
