Very bad gas mileage, either way, and two sets of symtoms
Set 1 Engine bucks while stopped. car is straining forward without significant braking. Engine runs rougher and rougher with time. Idle becomes tougher to maintain. Tough to restart
Set 2 Speedo does not work. Tranny seems to slip, slow to get moving. Engine will eventually start running rough, but not as bad as if speedo is working.
Done so far: New ECM, fuel regulator checked, coil replaced, MAP replaced. New wires and plugs
Codes:016,040, 057
Any thoughts? |

Any thoughts? | probably none of what you have done will help.
1. slip in trani - check transmission fluid, if you are running low, you will burn the clutches.
2. for the "slip" add a couple 24oz bottles of Lucas Trans Fluid *** BUT DO NOT OVERFILL - you may have to drain some fluid before adding.
3. Speedo doesnt work? Probably a harness/connector issue .. read this thread .. contact cleaner & dielectric grease will most likely fix it: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...gine-help.html (1990 allante engine help)
4. ECM .. why was that replaced?
5. are those codes "current" or "history" ? ? ? |

The transmission symtoms chnge with the other ones, ie the transmission acts one way when the speedo works, another when it doesn't. Also, it is using WAY too much gas, either way. Thanks but I don't think it's a tranny issue per se, b ut an electical one. I'm debating the tps next. Quote:

HELP! Jayflynn, we need you to answer the questions, why was the ECM replaced? Is the fluid full and clean? Why was the coil replaced, As a guess? or did it fail? Map sensor, same question. Bucking at idle in gear is usually secondary ignition, Plug wires, cracked plug etc, shorting distributor cap. TPS does not cause bucking at idle. Poor mileage? 10, 15 mpg? Are the codes current or history? | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
