Mini Covers required?

I just purchased a 92 Allante and the mini-covers are missing. Will this cause a problem when I put the top down?

Re: Mini Covers required?

Nope. They are just for looks. I never use them on my '90. Enjoy!

Re: Mini Covers required?

Sometimes owners dont know that they have the mini-covers for years.

take a look in the following places:
- soft cover stow area
- spare tire well
- antenna side compartment
- behind driver compartment

Re: Mini Covers required?

Yes, the 87 to 90 Allanté had the mini covers in a storage area under the soft top cover; the 90.5 through 93 had the mini covers stored in the seat back pockets.

For what it's worth: I think, at least for the 90.5 through 93 Allantés, the mini-covers helped 'streamline' the airflow over the soft top boot cover; I've read in various posts where the wind would enter the open areas that are normally covered with the covers, and can cause the boot top to disengage.

For the most part, that is conjecture. The soft top covers lift because of one reason .. improper engagement and lock down to start with. The mini-covers do not affect this one way or another, or at least I have seen no evidence of that.

They do dress up the car very nicely and they do keep debris out .. that is it. I dont use them, they are a pain in the ass to install and remove .. oh, BTW, my car has hit 100+ mph top down, NO minicovers, and has not executed the soft-top-cover-air-brake procedure.

Most damage to the mini covers occurs when the operator forgets to pull them before unlatching the cover.

All Phase II & III have the seat pockets.

I would imagen that he would have searched those pockets by now.

Here is slice of the facts .. You can Google in the web for < Cadillac Allante XYZ Facts > for more details about any Allante.

Quote:

TOP - MINI COVERS - With the Phase II for the 1990˝, the shape of the mini-covers changed. In models 1987 to 1990 ˝ the mini covers were stored inside the soft cover boot well. On 1990 ˝ the storage of the mini-covers was shifted to a pocket behind the seats.
