Call AAA or something.
Most tow truck companies have a toolkit and they can do unlocks.
They will probably want to see proof of ownership. Some might even only do it for AAA members.
I guess a police officer could do it, but I'd rather think they were protecting my neighborhood rather than unlocking some guy's car by the movie theater.
I am not so sure it's a function of the police to unlock your car. Maybe since you are paying their salary with your tax dollars... but I am just not sure.
Once you get into the car you might think about fixing your door lock. Relying on a transmitter is okay as long as it works but what if you drop it again while you are out and break it? Keys are not as fragile.
The "smashing the window" trick works pretty good but this time of year it can be a cold drive home, especially if you are in a car full of broken glass. I am sure a call to a AAA place would be cheaper than having a window glass replaced.
Of course if you want your car to look real classy you an always go to the hardware store and get a sheet of plexiglass and a roll of duct tape.
That's always a nice look on a car.
