Question Mixed or non Mixed Exhaust??

Remove this ad
Hello,
Wondering if anyone has suggestions or could tell me pros/cons of having my 500's dual exhaust mixed with an X-type pipe, or just having two pipes straight from the manifold to Muffler (x2) off of each side -not mixing. The cat is gone & the little box in front of the cat may or may not be used to join two sides. The goal is for the most Power with a good deep purr at idol that won't piss off neighbors, but also have a good growl at cruise. Thanks for your help.
-Erik

Re: Mixed or non Mixed Exhaust??

My experience has been that adding the balance tube between the two banks will always help reduce the booming in the exhaust and improve the sound quality. It makes power but I think that a lot of the power claims are overblown as they are run with a very specialized exhaust on a very low backpressure system with little or no "muffling"... I would still always put a balance tube in at least to help cut down on the boominess of the exhaust note (it will make the neighbors happier) and hope for whatever power increase it might add. I think you would have to chassis dyno compare to see if there is a difference between an X type or a simple balance tube but no question the balance tube helps.
