Quadra Bog Problem or Fuel Pump?

    Hey everyone,
Getting a cutout upon full acceleration after about 4-5 seconds(like the carb starves). I still have the clear glass filter near the carb. It never seems to fill all the way up , even upon idle.
Changed the fuel pump and filter about 600 miles ago, but I know that doesn't mean it couldn't be failing again.
Should that filter bowl FILL with fuel? Any thoughts I may have overlooked?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

Is the filter getting clogged up? If there's a lot of garbage in the tank clogging up the filter, that could cause the problem.

The filter won't fill all the way with liquid. They always have some vapor in them.

The only way to be sure would be to hook up a pressure gauge.

I've had this happen and once had a cracked fuel line that open with engine torque. Every other time it's been low capacity pumps. An electric near the tank will give you the extra capacity you need. It doesn't have to be a high dollar one. It's going to be a booster so an inexpensive one should work.

Another possibility is the screen at the pickup in the tank getting clogged. You have to drop the tank to replace that. I did have a car that had it completely clogged ( I bought it that way, not running).

Haha! I love that, the cars are so long that the fuel pumps can't keep up!

My bet is the problem is the intake sock in the tank. As others have said, it's probably clogged with rust and crap.

So I went to NAPA and picked up two new fuel filters. Installed one and that cured the problem, in the short term. The old filter was only 3-4 months old,so I agree with you all that I'll be draining the tank and flushing the lines in the future.
    Thanks for the input,
    John
