    Air Intake Mishap...?

so when i got a new intake manifold put in, it added an inch or so to the engine height, thus squashing the airfilter box and airfilter, i need to figure out some low profile or tube that can get air to the carb, but welll filtered.
if you look at the pic, the filter is smashed. i took out the original airbox cause i figured this was smaller....

Just get one of those drop-base air filter housings. I have one on my '79 Deville with a 472 and Edelbrock intake, and it fits fine under the hood.

yeah, search Jegs or Summit Racing. The one I have on my 472 is made by Mr. Gasket. It's a cheap one, but good enough until I get the car fixed up some more.
Basically, what you're looking for is a base for the air cleaner that has the carb top mount higher than the edges, so that the element is dropped down. Then you should have no problems with hood clearance, unless you're using a really tall element.

    Re: Air Intake Mishap...?

It won't dent your hood, but these things really don't have much clearance. The Edelbrock is 3" taller than the stock intake. My recommendation would be to get the drop base from al and use whatever element and top, or modify your stock drop base. Some people have gotten Edelbrocks, etc to work too but they've gotta be pretty slim and drop base.

    Re: Air Intake Mishap...?

actually it has VERY slightly dented my hood, i noticed it a few days later. when my hood is closed its Obviously a tight sqweeze. i have to kinda force the hood down. and this is with the stock airfilter housing.

    pictures later...

    Re: Air Intake Mishap...?

Could you fit a carb bonnet on there? (there used in offroad applications for snorkels, and in turbo applications) Maybe one of those plumbed into a cone filter located remotely?
