    Finally grabbed a 4L80E

Been stalking these for some time.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

Now I need an electronic speedo head, an adaptor plate, some small parts and a little time. Going into the '80 Fleetwood 2 dr behind a 500.

I can hardly wait to have a GOOD 4 speed automatic behind all the torque.

Hey man, congrats on the purchase. Glad you found what you've been looking for.

How much torque is that beast going to be putting out?

    Re: Finally grabbed a 4L80E

Dunno the number. Right now it's going in with a Roachtester carbonator. I want to do some meaningful testing before and after the port injection. Part of the injection tuning includes fuel economy data from the carb. I have almost all the pieces to the fuel injection puzzle but am not in any hurry. Guess the answer is: whatever a 1975 500 makes. This engine is completely stock. Only thing non-stock will be the missing catalytic convertor guts. I really like the way these engines deliver economy when you drive them conservatively and don't want to do anything to ruin that. If I ever need to go faster then I'd use N2O.

Ah. I think that that is around 380 ft. lbs? I'm not quite sure though.

Speaking of N2O, NOS makes a Powershot kit especially for the Q-jet...thought that was kind of cool.

Thanks for that info. I have never worked on one of these. The manual is coming and I'm watching all the stuff for sale for these too. Will be a fun ride getting this up and running. The freight folks should be here Mon or Tues.

they arent bad at all, valvebody and everything will be pretty self explantory.... used to rebuild one a week ....most shift kits come witht he stuff you need to fix the valve issue , if i remeber right it involves a bit of drilling .....its been years since ive dealt with one ...

they were the first auto tranny i ever rebuilt , and prolly the last ....LOL ...also the first time i had ever seen case failure due to overpressureization (that a word?)....

Speaking of the Q-jet, it will be interesting to see how the one I am buying from JET will do. It's built specifically for my application, and includes all of the goodies like the bronze throttle shaft bushing kit to eliminate vacuum leaks, binding throttle, etc., high speed circuits and all of that. Claim for it to be minimal tuning and perfect for my application as described to them.

I see a whole lot of cases for sale on Ebay so this must be a common failure. I'm not too worried as my application is a walk in the park compared to some other places these transmissions were used. Thanks again for the info and let me know if you remember anything else.
