    1970 - 472

This is my first time at this site and I naturally am looking for help. I purchased a 1954 Mercury that has a 1970 "472" that I am unable to get any info from the seller. My problem is the dip stick always reads overfull and the lifters started to make noise. I am uncertain as to add oil or not. The part number on the dip stick reads 1495864 with a capacity of 5 quarts and I would like to confirm this is the right dip stick for this motor - if possible. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bill

Why not do an oil change and fill it up with 5 quarts and see what that does...just for starters.
