    storage / transmission leak

ive had my 72 deville in storage for six months and a huge puddle of transmission fluid was recently noticed under the car. ill get under and look soon, but for now does anyone have any idea what could have happened? the transmission didnt leak oil prior to being stored, and the transmission always shifted fine.

A gasket like maybe the pan gasket decided it didn't want to hold the ATF anymore. Look to see where it's coming from and replace the gasket that's leaking.

it could be the speedo cable that is leaking. it is somewhat common for that to leak if the tranny has been sitting for a while. when all the fluid drains into the bottom of the trans it can leak out of the speedo cable, or more where it screws in.

in addition to those places, check the rear seal around the driveshaft, and the o-ring where the tranny dipstick goes in.
