    '68, 472 HEI Conversion?

Hey guys, I got a 1968 Deville, with the 472, with points ignition. The motors out right now being rebuilt, and before i put it back in i want to switch over to hei. Im thinking about purchasing a replacement hei distributor off of autozone, that is for a newer 472 hei caddy. What else would i need to purchase / do to get it to work properly, thanks.

You will need the distributor cap, rotor, ignition coil negative terminal spade (inside cap), spade terminal with clip for distributor b+, ignition wires, wire hold down clip and plastic coil cover. You can buy most of this stuff from a parts house but sometimes the screws are not included.
The advance curve will almost certainly be off so be prepared to make changes.

Changing from points to hei on a Caddy is no different really than any other GM product. There are lots of articles on different websites that give good, detailed info on this swap.

    Good luck.
BTW....there is a Oldsmobile site that has lots of good tech info ( http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/oldsfaq.htm ). It's not Cadillac but much of the info can be used on other GM makes, including Cadillac.
Below is a link to their ignition page.
    The swap is covered....in detail.
http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofign.htm#Ignition ......click on the Points to HEI Ignition link.
