    Newbie with Engine question

Hello I'm new to the Caddy forums,,, I just inherited a 74 cadillac Eldorado with a little over 100k miles... It was my father in-laws baby... Body is in pretty good condition, interior is excellent.

The car was driven in their garage by me 10 yrs ago and never started again...

Can someone give me some tips on getting this baby started. It has the original 500 motor, not sure about the tranny...

I'm pretty good with cars, I have just never started one that has sat this long, should i turn the motor by hand first, then squirt some oil in the cylinders and go from there? or is there a better procedure?

Thanks and I look forward to chatting with you all...

Have you not tried to start it yet?

You'll probably want to check the fuel filter, for one. Also, the carb's float is probably housing some residue.

Obviously the battery will need charging as well.

It really shouldn't take too much to get it going again, just the usual cleaning, etc.

I really don't know much when it comes to getting in-depth, but you really shouldn't have to do much.

    BTW-I own a '76 ElDorado. Beautiful cars.

    Thanks for the quick reply...

I plan on starting it this weekend.

Yes they beautiful cars, this one only need a little body work, and obviously some engine detailing.

I'm in ElDorado, Arkansas. It's just South of Little Rock. How about you?

I've been working on mine for the past month, and it's really coming along. I've spent the last week or so on the engine, mostly cleaning/sanding and repainting. Even cleaning/replacign the hoses as well. Trying to get it looking really nice, as well as running great.Getting a lot of help from everyone here too.
