    ocasional puff of smoke

    on my 68 472 there is`an ocasional puff of white smoke around the area of transmission meeting the block and the smell of burned oil i do not know what is dripping it only happens ocasionally when i turn the engine off

    does your transmission lose tranny fluid?
    That really sounds like it might be the tranny front seal.

    my guess would be a leaking valve cover......oil dripping on the exhaust or maybe a leak at the back of the intake manifold. start looking for oil. it can sometimes be hard on a greasy engine but you should be able to tell where the fresh stuff is.
