425s PCV system, smoke comes out the filter hole

After I reinstalled my carb I had my mom sit in the cab and rev the engine. She put it into drive and at high RPMs, some white smoke (combustion blow by gasses?) came out of the PCV filter hole. There was no filter at the time, but I have since put one on. What's up with that? The PCV valve clicks like its sposed to, and there's plenty of suction at that location. How bad is this? What can I do about it?

A certain amount is normal. That's why there is a PCV system.

Hmm the PCV system is to take the gasses and put them into the intake to be burned again, so I don't know why they'd be coming out the filter hole - seems like it's the wrong way. Just doesn't make sense to me. But even if it wasn't normal there's nothing I can do about it, so whatever.
