    500 Test Fit - '64 Chevy C10

Did a test fit of my rebuilt Cad 500 into my 64 C10 today. Fits nice, just need to fab up some mounts and tweak a few things. Need to have it ready to go to TorqueFest in Dubuque this coming May.

Looks like its going to be fun to drive. Have you checked out MTS for some of there motor mount kits.. I'm guessing you are using a TH400 trans.

It is a TH400 that I rebuilt. MTS has hooked me up with some good stuff, can't wait to fire this beast up.

Fired it up this past weekend. Great balls of fire! Backfired a few times, then got it running and broke in the new cam and lifters. Took it for a drive. This is going to be fun.

You built what I'm working on . Looks great . I have 1964 c10 and a deville 425 Just in the collection stage yet. Yes now you got me thinking 500 . Where do these hobbies lead to LOL Thanks for the post . How did you beef up the front end to hold that 500.

    Re: 500 Test Fit - '64 Chevy C10

Thanks. I originally was looking at a big block Chevy, then saw a CL ad for the 500 out of an Eldorado. I liked the nice round number, 500, and decided to do some research on this motor. I really had not even known it existed. Then, when I found out it was and is the largest production motor ever put in an American car, I new what I had to do next.
When I first bought the truck, I had put front discs on it and 2.5 in. drop spindles along with cutting one coil off the front springs. I also put 4" drop springs on the back at the same time. This gave me a nice stance with the old 230 inline motor.
Trouble now is that it really sits too low in the front with added 100 pounds or so from the Cad motor. I can still drive it, just need to be careful or the tires scrape the inner fender. I am going to raise the front a bit in the near future, have not decided how yet.
I did not do any real beefing up of the front end for the engine. I used motor mount purchases out of a late 60's C10, added a slot in each one for the Cad motor mounts, and mounted them to the frame rails and front crossmember. It seems to be stout enough for my use, I guess time will tell though.
Glad to see someone else with a C10 looking at doing this swap. Keep in touch on your progress.

Sucker has been running great. Going to drive it to the drag fest at Cordova Dragway soon and see what it does on the strip. Never done this before.

That's good news. Keep us posted on the drag strip performance. I'm guessing for your first time you should at least be as fast as the stock Mustangs (13's). I'll bet an experienced drag racer, with a few tweaks, could get it in the 11's pretty easy.
