Hey engine lovers, my 500 rebuild has hit a wall. I have dropped the 500 in the 85 eldo. My problem is i cant find a crankbolt for hub installation anywhere. With the motor in the car there is no room for a block and hammer. The install tool stopped about a half inch short of flush. :banghead: everyone i talk to say the bolt is not a stock caddy part , but i do need one to complete the installation. Where can i find one or what type of car would i see it on in a junkyard. Help! :worship:
The bolt size is 9/16-18. The length I'm not sure......I'll try to get a measurement on mine later today.
Cadillac didn't put crank/hub bolts in.....they just put a cork in the hole to protect the threads.
The bolt in my engine is 1.5" in length and the flat washer is .25" thick. There is also a lock washer on it.
With the washers I'm using, there's probably enough room for a 2" bolt.
The bolts can be found but it may not be easy. Try a "hole in the wall" auto parts store, not the big chains. If you have no luck at auto supply stores, you may want to try an industrial fastener supply house. Get a high quality bolt. You don't want it to break off. The bolt is only for installation and it's not necessary to leave it in place.
I've seen the cork too. It's a standard option from the factory.
