hi i have a 79 425 all stock thats leaking oil out the back of the motor. i thought rear main but i have the dust shield on and i get just as much oil drpping off the starter so im thinking its comming from up higher. im replacing the original valve cover gaskets as i wright this so maybe that is it but im just wondering if theres anything back there that could also leak. thanks

Re: oil leak from back of motor
Yes, the oil pressure switch is located on the block in the middle over the bell housing flange. They usually have 3 terminals in those years. One to complete ground for the idiot lamp and 2 for power to the electric choke.
You need a specialty socket to unscrew the thing if it is the problem.
ok thats not it. i think.... lol theres oil leaking out of it but not alot. im starting to think its the rear main or the oil pan. pan will bee getting dropped this week i think so illl check it out but if not, what am i getting myself into with the main? i will be doing all the work myself. and motors gota stay in the truck. and its gota be done by 4:00pm the same day. possible????
