    Got a new set of headers for mine 425

    Hi all, long time i am not posting in here, but since i left my car in the shop to repair a few thing, a lot of other thing were found and its been 2 months and the car is still in the shop and probably will not leave for the next 2 months.

    I first decided to fix a exhaust leak on the exhaust manifold, what we tought was just a blown gasket became a huge problem, began with the small problem that the manifold bolts were rusted and they had to remove the engine to remove the bolts.

    -To remove the engine, they had to disassemble the front suspension, now the surprises:

    1. all 4 balljoints were bad;
    2. all 8 bushing for the A-ARMS desintegrated as soon as they removed them;
    3. there was no pad left in the brake pads;
    4. the small hoses for the calipers were leaking;
    5. the calipers needed a rebuild kit;
    6. mastercilinder could not be rebuild;
    7. brakebooster was bad and they cannot rebuild that in Brasil;
    8. Engine mounts were damaged;
    9. small leaks in the oil pan gasket;
    10. Radiator upper hose was about to blow
    11. valve covers were rusted
    12. tie rod ends were damaged
    13. stabilizer bar links were damaged
    14. LH coil was broken
    15. front colis were cut with a torch, DAMAGED
    16. Engine expansion plugs were starting to rot.
    **** 17. MANIFOLD HAD A CRACK, CANNOT BE WELD..

    Based on all that, i decided to fix those things, i ordered those from ROCKAUTO:

    DAYCO70861Radiator Lower Hose$ 10.71$ 0.001$ 10.71

    And then ordered those from EBAY:

    and those:

    Well, the question is, have anyone ever ordered those headers im showing here?

    I will be receiving those in 2 weeks, because i am from Brasil, and i am very curious and would like to be 100% sure that they will fit just fine.

    Would i have any improvements?

    Remembering that my car already have a 2.5" exhaust system with a single flowmaster, i am going to go stainless stell all the way from the headers with dual flowmasters.

    With all those fixes, car should be just like new, i forgot to mention, that timing chain is new and sprockets are new and they are not plastic, flywheel is new, torque converter is brand new, also car is FUEL INJECTED, all 8 injectors are flowing equally and with new seal and everything.

    i will post some pictures of the car in the shop later today.

    I US DOLLARS the shop is charging me about $1200.00 to do all the fixes, plus i spent $450 in parts, plus $260 in the headers plus $20 in the valve covers, bringing a total of $1980.00.

    They painted the engine to match the OG color included on the price.

    Well one thing that bothers me is the fact that they had to remove the steering and suspension to remove the engine. Doesn't make sense in my mind. You remove the engine by lifting it out of the engine compartment, with the crossover disconnected from the manifolds. Why didn't they just pull the heads and repair the broken bolts? Then you would only have the extra cost of the head gaskets.
    It is difficult to determine if those headers will work on that engine, as the clearance between the exhaust ports and the upper control arm mounts are very close. The collector is in the center and by eyeballing it to my car suggests the left side may fit, but the right side would be tight to the frame cross section and the motor mount. If you buy them and they work, Hurrah! If they don't your out some bucks. I think these headers are for a rat rod conversion, not a stock application. If you can determine who the manufacturer is, you can make an inquirey as to whether they may fit a stock application.

    Re: Got a new set of headers for mine 425

    Those are not tuned headers. You may have some gains performance-wise due to a less restrictive manifold, but not because they are performance headers.
    The fact that your control arm bushings are worn is not surprising, as those bushings are very small. Cadillac did that to aid in clearancing the control arms to the exhaust manifolds. The weight of the front end and the heat from the exhaust cause deterioration of the rubber. I would recommend replacing the bushings with urethane bushings, which stand up better to pressure and heat.

    i agree with you, but im glad that i done the whole thing, now i have brand new suspension, (shocks are ok), brakes etc...

    I contacted the seller on ebay, and they told me, they fit fine on the 76 deville, probably will fit nice in the 78. lets wait and see.
    i will keep you posted.

    I remeber some time ago, a user from the forum got those exact same headers, i just could not find the topic.

    '76 deVille has a wider stance and more room around the engine than the '77 - '79s. I wish you well with your endeavors and if they work it would be good info for me to stuff into my data banks.

    Another classic Caddy revived from near death; good job Gornati. Thos headers should fit. I think those type of headers are made for tight clearances. They will definitely look better. I like the dark blue paint on the block; it looks like the old Cadillac blue. I thought all the 78's had the corporate baby blue. I painted over a dark blue 76 block last year and I have been kicking myself ever since. I should have ordered the correct classy blue. Since yours is a 78 the baby blue would be correct but I would go with the older blue if I was being detail oriented. Keep us posted on your progress. You should get a lot of enjoyment out of that car.
