    Stranded 70 Coupe No spark?

Car was having trouble starting. With a jump it reluctantly started.
Then it would not start whatsoever.
    Took battery to autozone. Bad.
    Installed new battery.

Car would alternately click loud or do absolutely nothing.
    Cleaned starter battery cable.

Car cranks strong and fast and starts.

We manage to keep it running for 5 minutes when it suddenly dies.

Now it Really wont start. It is getting fuel. It is cranking hard and strong.
We pulled a plug wire and did the spark plug test ,,,there seems to be no spark.

So what would it probably be?

    Bad Coil bad distributor...something else?

Back info...I put a used HEI distributorn out of a 74 5 years ago.

Assuming you have 12V input to the HRI, I'd first try a different
4 pin module. Easy to change, no need to affect timing. If that
doesn't help, I'd throw on a different cap & coil set. Third thing
could be a bad pickup coil (or its 2 wires that flex all the time).
Fixing that is complete HEI removal & dis assembly.
If there is a lot of wear, things may be rubbing or broken.

I think Bruce called it. The module and the pick up coil leads seem to be the first two things to give problems.
I would suggest trying the module first, since the pickup coil is more difficult to change.

I'd start from the top of the check list.
    1) Check the new battery. See if that one is dead now too. If it is then your alternator is toast.
    2) Check to see if the ignition wire to the distributor is getting juice.
    3) Take off cap see if there is any visual signs of an issue.
    4) Do as Bruce mentioned. Doesn't hurt to change it out either way, its probably time for that.
Let us know how it goes.
