In April of 2009, I did a complete rebuild of my 472. The sole reason for the rebuild was to eliminate a few bothersome oil leaks. The car has been in the family for 25 years and aside from the leaks, was a superb running Coupe.
The engine has about 800 miles on it now since the rebuild, and I've had this overheat problem since it was first started. During that time, I have run a complete battery of tests and consulted with engine builders from the US and the UK. The car still overheats. The thermostat is 160°, and the overheat problem fluctuates between 180° and 240°.
I would like to contact a 472 expert from this site to review all of the tests and measurements that I have performed, in hopes, that there is some additional expertise out there that can help me through this problem. Please contact me via email and give me a phone number. I will email a list of the past 8 months of activities.
The thermostats for the cadillac are specific to the cadillac in those motors, did you buy one from a parts store? They usually sell generic GM stats that don't have the necessary ports. I bought the wrong one years ago, but I don't remember if it caused overheating. MTS sells the proper one and the forum is full of 472 experts.
